Our commission was to design a modern, open-plan kitchen-diner extension for this home on the edge of Sheffield
We were appointed to design a kitchen and dining extension to a family home in Dore, S17. The property is located within an established residential area, and it was important that the proposed extension responded sensitively to the existing building.
The brief called for an open-plan kitchen and dining space to improve the functionality of the ground floor and strengthen the connection to the garden. The design approach prioritised simplicity and coherence, ensuring that the extension would sit comfortably alongside the original house in both form and material expression.
Attention was given to proportion, roofline, and material selection to maintain visual consistency, while introducing contemporary elements such as large-format glazing to improve natural daylight and provide a stronger relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The final design offers a modest yet effective intervention that enhances everyday use of the home without compromising its character or presence within the surrounding context.
