Retrofit, refurbishment and barn conversion to connect to existing property
The client’s brief for this project was to convert this characterful but dilapidated barn and create a link to the existing house, utilising the existing outbuildings in a modern, retrofitted design.
Situated in a conservation area, the scheme was sensitive and had to be designed to enhance the existing environment. Working with the Planning Authority, minor changes to the submitted scheme were agreed and planning was secured.
The client’s end goal is to restore the property while upgrading it thermally to a high standard. We provided expert advice throughout, ensuring the design met both the client’s needs and conservation requirements.
Our involvement began at RIBA Stage 1 and included everything from concept design through to detailed design. The client did however have a change of heart and decided not to move forward with the project. We are now working with the new owners to secure minor changes to the Planning Permission.
